Look at our Leader, RM!
Now, at the age of 21, he has a more-mature, striking presence, on and off the stage. Especially with that bright blond hair (we LOVE the extra blue tints). It definitely sets him apart from the others (all were more dark-haired during this era). It’s late 2014 when “Wake Up” is released.
BTS dove into the Japanese market fairly quickly amidst their debut, circa 2013. As we already know, RM (then known by his moniker Rap Monster) stepped into his Leader position very well from the beginning. This had to be an asset back then as these young guys were venturing into Japan; a whole new experience (albeit exciting) plus a new country with a new a language, culture and dynamics to navigate.
We also all know how bright RM is- he’s known to have a genius-level IQ. Who better to guide the other six? He has a penchant for languages (we’ve likely all heard his famous story of learning English by watching the American TV show, “Friends”) and often helps the others with the English phrases they’ve strived to learn for TV appearances in the U.S. (his coaching them on words and terms is still happening today). We can only imagine that was the case with Japanese too. Well done! When we watch those early showcase clips, their promos sound great!
He’s calm and interested in the world. He’s thoughtful and patient. He’s confident and steady. Who better to have taken the team into this whole new frontier? And you can just SEE all those qualities in this special concept image for “Wake Up” – our RM is ready for the world!
