Do you know BTS? | Jin

Sure, we’re taking time this week to learn more about Jin but maybe we also need to consider: what can WE learn FROM Jin? 💜

On Tuesdays we like to explore iconic lines from our featured member as part of our campaign, “Do You Know, BTS?” while we’re counting down the days to the Recording Academy / GRAMMYs. Earlier today we posted an iconic lyric from Jin’s song, “Epiphany” and now we hope to share more about an impactful quote from his ‘BE’ Comeback interview published in ‘Weverse Magazine’ back in November 2020.

Especially in these times of COVID, it’s very easy to lament what was and all we’re missing out on. And to also drown in anxiety about what’s to come. We hear all the experts remind us to “stay present”. But how?

Jin has experienced so much and become a fairly wise young man during this past decade. And this quote and his approach to life seems to have been a result of some conscious effort on his part- especially as this global pandemic hit.

He had to stop, do some inner reflection and realize he needed to find other sources of happiness aside from performing; he found he felt very insecure without that live connection with ARMY. He was always chasing whatever the next career goal looked like but now? He had to figure out what might bring him joy other than work.

He admits to being more of a feeler than a thinker and over the years, was fairly light-hearted about life and just stayed in the moment, doing whatever he “felt” like at the time.

When that became limited due to this worldwide quarantine, he experienced a wide spectrum of less familiar emotions. He recognizes that his success has earned him the opportunity to make some amazing things happen in his life and he’s very grateful. Although he has moments where he asks if he really deserves all this? He struggles with insecurity, like all of us.

It’s a wonderful article and really showcases a side of Jin that is often hiding behind that always-joking, handsome smile. But he’s done his inner work. Impressive .

In other pieces we’ve read he also makes mention of some depression he felt in the early days of COVID (which inspired December’s writing and release of his solo song “ABYSS”) and how reaching out and talking with counselors helped.

His openness and vulnerability around this is so powerful. Others who look up to BTS and follow every move they make (like us) need to hear it’s OK to seek help. Yet more proof of how profoundly the members believe in their uplifting, “Love Yourself” message. For themselves and us; care for yourself enough to seek whatever support you need.

It’s hard to give this wonderful interview a justified overview. Please read it yourself here:
