Let’s keep talking about j-hope and learn more about his music. This lyric is from his iconic, “Outro : EGO” and it’s one of our very favorites- such a FUN song!
The song was released on February 2, 2020 and is from the album, “Map of the Soul : 7”. The lyrics are super positive (just like Hobi himself) and all about managing the tough stuff in order to make your dreams come true; overcoming obstacles and trusting yourself to create an amazing life. He wrote it himself and we can only assume it reflects his personal experience and approach to life.
We’ve touched on j-hope’s talent for singing, dancing and rapping but he is also a prolific songwriter. He dropped his very popular mixtape, “Hope World” on March 2, 2018 (Happy Anniversary). He worked on it for three years and once released, it peaked at #38 on the Billboard 200 chart, making it the highest charting work by a Korean solo artist. Here’s what j-hope has said about how personal the process was for him:
“The reason I made the mixtape was because it was kind of like a dream for me… to make and play a song that I made about myself. I wanted to play it for many people. And for the longest time, I worked on it and invested in that dream, and I studied a lot and wrote songs, researched to make it happen so I could figure out a way that many fans and the public who don’t know about J-Hope can all enjoy my music. So, first and foremost the reason why I made [Hope World] was because I wanted it so badly.” [Wikipedia]
A more recent writing endeavor for j-hope was “Dis-ease” which appears on the current BTS album, “BE”. We’ve included the link below to his Weverse Magazine “BE” Comeback Interview from late 2020. He shares a lot about his writing and the efforts around the album and especially this track. It’s a great read plus the photos are fantastic! As always, Hobi never disappoints!

Now you know more about j-hope and his music! When you listen to his solo tracks with BTS or take “Hope World” for a spin for the first time (or again and again), maybe you’ll now have a new or different perspective; ponder more about what his experiences may have brought to those lyrics. Most likely? HOPE.
